Prenatal Lactation Class- $200

Private and in your home.

The Breastfeeding process begins before birth, during pregnancy, when your body is changing in order to meet the needs of your growing infant. This is an ideal time to begin learning and preparing for your lactation journey.

Breastfeeding Beginnings is a two hour class that will give you the information and basic skills you will need in order to lay a solid foundation for successful breastfeeding.

This class is offered as a private, in person experience held within the comfort of your home. I do encourage any members of your support team to attend however, this is not necessary.

This class is best taken between 32-36 weeks gestation.

The topics that will be covered include:

  • Anatomy and Physiology of Breastfeeding

  • Benefits of Breastfeeding for both mom and baby

  • Breastmilk Composition

  • Kangaroo Mother Care

  • Mechanics of breastfeeding; Position & Latch techniques

  • Hand Expression

  • Normal Newborn Feeding Behavior

  • Trusting your body- How To Know You Are Making Milk

  • Trusting your Baby-How To Know Infant is Getting Milk

  • Nipple Care

  • What to do when baby won’t latch

  • Hunger Cues

  • Establishing Breastfeeding Goals

  • Support and Planning

  • Breast pumps/Equipment

  • Understanding how your body functions in order to support lactation is a very important part of developing confidence in your breastfeeding journey. In order to support this knowledge we will do two things:

*Prior to class you will complete a medical history intake form which will provide me with the information I will need to assess any risk factors you may have which could potentially impact lactation. We will review this information together either privately or in class.

    * I will also privately conduct a breast assessment in order to help you understand how your body is changing in order to prepare for breastfeeding.

Whether you feel as though you need a refreshing boost of breastfeeding support or you are dealing with a problem such as a painful latch or low supply concerns, I always encourage women and families to reach out for professional help earlier rather than later with their lactation questions.

Time is of the essence in these early days of breastfeeding and most issues can be managed fairly easily with the right help at the right time. Do yourself a favor and call me. There is no need for you to struggle repeatedly with a problem or concern when I can simply guide you through effective solutions.

Our consult will be driven by your individual needs and may include any of the following:

  • Full medical history for both mom and baby

  • Breast Assessment

  • Assessment of latch

  • Assessment of infant oral anatomy

  • Pre and post feed weights to check milk transfer

  • Recommendations to improve supply

  • Solutions for breast pain

  • How to use a breast pump

  • Assessment of newborn

  • Education on tongue tie

  • Recommendations on referrals

  • Individualized care plan

*I will only conduct follow up consults or phone consults with repeat customers in order to have the opportunity to fully understand the medical and lactation history gathered through an initial consult.
